Can a pharmacist treat my eczema?

Eczema Consultation

Pharmacist Consultation Eczema Icon

A consultation where a specifically trained pharmacist assesses your eczema and, if appropriate, provides or prescribes suitable treatment under their expanded scope of practice authority.

Common signs of the eczema this consultation covers include:

  • Dry, itchy patches of skin
  • Redness and mild inflammation
  • Flare-ups linked to triggers like weather or products

Key benefits:

  • Fast access without waiting weeks for a GP appointment
  • Practical advice on triggers and skincare routine
  • Treatment on the spot in many cases

What is an Eczema Consultation?

This service may be suitable if you:

  • Have any of the signs above

This isn’t suitable for severe or widespread eczema, or eczema with signs of infection.

Who May Benefit from an Eczema Consultation?

Eczema treatment plans are individually assessed, and what’s appropriate can change as your skin responds over time.

Your pharmacist will assess your individual suitability, including your relevant medical history and current symptoms, before proceeding.

This consultation is only suitable for mild to moderate eczema; severe, widespread, or infected eczema needs assessment by a GP or dermatologist.

Ask your pharmacist for the relevant Consumer Medicines Information (CMI) if a medicine is provided.

Important Information

Before Your Consultation

Be prepared to discuss:

  • Your skin concerns and known triggers
  • Your current skincare routine
  • Any medicines you are currently taking

During Your Consultation

Your pharmacist will assess your skin and discuss your routine and possible triggers before determining whether treatment can be provided.

The consultation may also include a prescribed treatment plan where appropriate, or a referral to your GP or a dermatologist if more severe.

What to Expect During Your Visit

What if my eczema looks infected?

This is outside the scope of this consultation — your pharmacist will refer you to your GP.

Can this be used for children’s eczema?

Ask Blakes Pharmacy about age eligibility for this consultation.

What if my eczema is widespread or severe?

Your pharmacist will refer you to your GP or a dermatologist for more significant presentations.
