Yes - Blakes Pharmacy pharmacists offer confidential, non-judgemental advice on sexual health and other sensitive health concerns in a private consultation room. No appointment is needed to speak with a pharmacist. If you've been prescribed treatment by your doctor or sexual health clinic, our team can also dispense it and support you along the way.
Can I talk to a pharmacist about sexual health in private?
Sexual health and sensitive medicines support is a confidential pharmacist service for people who want advice, information or reassurance about sexual health and other sensitive health matters. It's designed for situations where you'd like to speak with an experienced pharmacist in private - for example, if you have questions about sexually transmissible infections (STIs), safer sex, or how to take a medicine your doctor has prescribed.
Our pharmacists can provide general information and advice, help you understand your prescribed medicines, and refer you to a GP or sexual health clinic when further assessment, testing or a prescription is needed. This service supports, and does not replace, care from your doctor or sexual health clinic.
Key benefits:
This service may be suitable if you:
Whether a particular treatment or product is appropriate depends on your individual circumstances, so always speak with your doctor or pharmacist.
Be prepared to discuss:
Your pharmacist will invite you into our private consultation room, listen to your concerns without judgement and provide information and advice. If further assessment is needed, we can refer you to your GP or sexual health clinic. If you've been prescribed treatment, we'll explain how to take it and answer your questions.
Can a pharmacist really help with sexual health concerns?
Yes. Pharmacists can provide confidential advice and information about sexual health, explain your prescribed medicines and refer you to a GP or sexual health clinic when you need further care.
Do I need to book an appointment?
No appointment is usually needed to speak with a pharmacist, and you can ask to use our private consultation room. You're welcome to call ahead on 02 9358 6712 to check availability.
Will my conversation be kept confidential?
Yes. Conversations take place in a private consultation room, and your personal information is handled in line with our Privacy Policy and Australian privacy law.
Can a pharmacist diagnose or test for an STI?
No. Diagnosis and testing are carried out by a GP or sexual health clinic. Your pharmacist can explain your options and refer you to the right service.
Can I get a prescription medicine without a prescription?
No. Prescription medicines can only be supplied with a valid prescription from an authorised prescriber. Our pharmacists can explain how this works and point you to a GP or sexual health clinic if you need one.
What if I think I've been exposed to an infection or need urgent help?
Contact your GP, a sexual health clinic or an emergency department as soon as possible. If you may have been exposed to HIV, time matters, so don't wait. In an emergency, call 000.
