Can a pharmacist assess my wound?

Wound Care

Wound Care Icon

A consultation where a specifically trained pharmacist assesses your wound and provides product advice and recommendations for ongoing wound care at home.

This consultation is suitable for wounds such as:

  • Minor cuts, grazes, or abrasions
  • Small, uncomplicated cuts
  • Wounds that are clean and not showing signs of infection

Key benefits:

  • Fast assessment without waiting for a GP appointment
  • Expert product advice tailored to your wound
  • A convenient option for minor, everyday injuries

What Is a Wound Care?

This service may be suitable if you:

  • Have an acute, minor wound like the ones above
  • Your wound is clean and not showing signs of infection

This isn’t suitable for deep, heavily bleeding, infected, or complex wounds, or wounds needing stitches — these need urgent medical or surgical treatment.

Who May Benefit from Wound Care?

Wound assessments are made case by case, and product recommendations depend on the size, depth, and cause of the wound.

This consultation is for assessment and product advice for acute, minor wounds only; it does not include wound treatment or dressing application.

Deep, heavily bleeding, infected, or complex wounds need urgent medical or surgical treatment.

Important Information

Before Your Consultation

Be prepared to discuss:

  • How the wound occurred and when
  • Whether you’ve noticed any signs of infection
  • Any medicines you are currently taking

During Your Consultation

Your pharmacist will assess your wound and discuss the best options for caring for it at home.

The consultation may also include product recommendations for dressings and after-care, or a referral if the wound is outside scope.

What to Expect

What if my wound is deep or won’t stop bleeding?

Seek urgent medical care immediately — this consultation is not for serious or heavily bleeding wounds.

What if my wound looks infected?

Signs of infection (increasing redness, swelling, pus, or fever) need prompt GP assessment rather than this consultation.

Can you recommend products for ongoing dressing changes?

Yes — ask Blakes Pharmacy for advice on the right dressing and after-care products as your wound heals.
